| Background: Spike began life as William, the only son to Anne and was a gentleman of the 1800s. He wrote poetry that was often mocked by his peers. William had an unhealthy relationship with his mother than took mama's boy just a little too far. He earned the nickname William the Bloody because he was a bloody awful poet. It wasn't until he was turned into a vampire that he used the nickname to terrorize others. After he was rejected by the object of his desire, Cecily, at a party, William wandered the streets of London and as fate would have it, bumped into Drusilla. His ripe wicked plum, consoled him and then turned him into a vampire. After this occurrence, Spike took his devotion to his mother one step further and turned her so that she wouldn't die of tuberculosis. Unfortunately, it wasn't a happily ever after story and William was forced to stake his mother. William embraced his vampiric life taking on the name Spike because of his penchant for torturing victims with railroad spikes. He, Dru, Angelus and Darla were known as the scourge of Europe and it was a well earned name. During the Boxer rebellion in China, (1900) Spike killed his first Slayer. This is an amazing feet as he was only a vampire for twenty years and something that he liked to brag about a lot. After Angelus was cursed to become Angel breaking up the foursome, Spike and Dru continued on with their lives until Prague where Dru was almost killed. They arrived in Sunnydale because of a way to cure Dru that involved her sire (Angel). What they hadn't counted on was that Angel would become Angelus and Spike would be seriously injured in a fight with the Slayer. The intense rivalry between William and Angelus came to a head over Drusilla which prompted Spike to work with Buffy. Something he thought that he would never do and it ended up costing him the one thing that he loved. Dru. Powers: Whedonverse Vampire abilities Personality: William is a shy, quiet, sensitive man who rarely spoke up and tended to blend into his background. Spike is the antithesis of this. He is loud, rude, cocky, speaks his mind and taunts others. Beneath everything, Spike has an inferiority complex that his strutting and cocky behavior masks. He loves to brag as a way of saying how great he is, but it's more a defense mechanism than truly believing it. Spike is also a keen observer of human nature and knows exactly which buttons to push to be the most effective. He is fiercely loyal, almost to the point of obsessiveness. When he loves, he loves completely and when he hates, he does the same. |
